Nobody' Business...?

Tony literally waits for me at the gate, and offers to carry my bag for me. As we walk in, there are people staring at us and whispering. I hope they haven't drawn any conclusions already, I'd hate for people to make me a common enemy already. We walk towards the sports field and sit at the stands. Tony's just so happy to see me it's almost funny. We spent the whole morning together, then he walks me to homeroom. As I walk into the class, Meagan already asks a million questions about Tony.

Meagan: " The truth please: what's going on between you two? He's like the hottest guy in school and you've bagged him on your second day here! "

Me: " Okay, first of all I doubt Matthew would appreciate you saying that about another guy and we're just friends. I met him before moving here at a mutual friend's party. We were just catching up and stuff. Nothing incriminating. "

Meagan: " Rumour has it he has a girlfriend in another school. She's like, the most beautiful girl, according to him. No one has really seen pictures of her because his phone is like his child. Anyway, I guess you'll be the one to change that because he seemed very keen! Physics first, let's go! "

So Meagan and I walk to Physics and before I know it I've made my first enemy. Her name's Nthabiseng: Queen Bee of Kings and Tony's ex. She's on the athletics team, the best female sprinter on the team (whatever!). She steps up to me with her goons and motions me to stop walking.

Nthabiseng: " Welcome to Kings. I'm not sure if Meags explained this to you but I run things around here so don't even think about changing the status quo. Stay out of my way, I'll stay out of yours. We could even be the best of friends if you manage to prove yourself. Right now though, hanging out with Meags here doesn't help you much. Cheers! "

As she's about to walk away, Tony calls me from down the corridor and comes up to hug me. I'm just as stunned as Nthabiseng is but I sense a stint of jealousy on her part. Tony puts his arm around me, and introduces me to her as his girl. Meagan's jaw drops, Nthabiseng clenches her teeth and storms off and I'm left feeling like a tomato with a target on it. I cannot believe Tony's doing this to me! I mean, for one, I asked him not to make us public and now that the source of all energy in this school knows what's going on, I'm going to be popular by the end of the week. He asks where I'm headed and offers to walk me. Meagan is still shocked, and holds my hand as we walk to class. We walk into Miss Partridge's class and before I say goodbye to Tony, he exclaims:

" WE GO TO THE SAME PHYSICS CLASS! "

Ugh... Lord, kill me now, please?

The day goes by pretty fast and before I know it I'm walking home with Tony. We get to my place and I show him around the house. When we walk into my room, he grabs me by the waist and kisses me.

Tony: " I've been waiting to do that all day. I'm so glad we're together now. Well, I guess we should get started with homework, yeah? "

Me: " Sure, but babe we need to talk about this new arrangement. I was told people know about me but they didn't know it was me 'til your announcement to Ntabiseng this morning. I think we shouldn't get too carried away with our relationship. Can we ease up on the excitement and do the whole Beyoncé and Jay-Z thing? "

Tony: " Sure babe, whatever. Let's work! "

We spent a good part of the afternoon doing homework that time seemed to pass by without notice. Mom got home, and found me studying with Tony.

Mom: " You didn't mention we were having visitors, and I'm all scruffy and tired from work. Hi, I'm Lesego's mother. You are Tony, the friend she was with at the hospital and the funeral? It's good to see you. "

Tony: " Mrs Pooe, it's a pleasure seeing you again. I learned that Lesego and I were in the same school so I thought to be her study buddy if that's okay with you? By the way, your home is lovely. "

Mom: " Yes, it's alright if you don't mind studying at her uncle's place. Lesego and her brother will be going to his place after school for a few days because I'll be working late. Lesego, Morgan's coming over for dinner with Tshepo and Botlale. Please get ready and get Tony prepared as well. Thanks guys! "

Ah! She just invited Tony to dinner and she's okay with the fact that he's here! I don't know whether to be happy or shoot myself. Tony rushes home to change while I shower before dinner. On the flip-side, I'm excited about seeing Uncle Morgan. I haven't seen him since the funeral and he's been e-mailing me to invite me to his place for lunch on Saturday. I don't know how to feel about it, but I'm hopeful that he has something positively important to talk about.

So dinner time comes and I'm sitting next to Tony while uncle Morgan and mom sit at the heads of the table. My brother and uncle Tshepo sit together on the other side, aunt Botlale couldn't make it because she had a function to attend. So everyone's going on with their own conversation and Tony's trying hard not to kiss me every time he looks at me when we talk. Uncle Morgan opens up conversation with Tony, and everyone at the table listens in.

Morgan: " So Tony, tell us about yourself. How did you meet Lesego? "

Oh dear God, please...

Tony: " Well sir, my full name's Tony Thabiso Tau, son of Dr Kgatliso Tau. I stay a few blocks from here and am an A-student at Kings. I met Lesego through a social network, we were chatting for a year and we met a few months ago at a party I held. We've been best friends ever since. "

Morgan: " Youth of today have strange ways of making friends but I'm glad you two are friends. I've been watching you both and I believe you have a great and mutual friendship. So I assume you've got a plan for next year? "

Tony: " Yes sir, I'm planning on studying Civil Engineering at Tuks, which is my father's alma mater. "

Morgan: " Great! A man with a plan, that's what I like. Could your father perhaps be the Dr Tau practising at Baragwanath? "

Tony: " Yes sir, that's him. Do you two work together? "

Morgan: " He one of my closest friends! Great man indeed, I must say. 'Sego, I'm proud of your friend choice this time girl, well done. "

Me: " Thanks uncle Morgan. I'll ensure he stays a great friend. "

The rest of the evening went great, and uncle Morgan drove his new BFF Tony home. Mom comes into my room after evening prayer and has a mini pep-talk about Tony.

Mom: " I know you and Tony like each other, there's no way you guys can get along so well and not feel anything. Just be careful sweety, I don't want you getting hurt. Tshepo seems to like Tony so I guess he's doing something right. I'm okay with you dating but before you do, make sure he's the guy you want to be with, okay? "

Me: " Wait, what would you know about crushes? "

Mom: "Believe it or not, Morgan and I used to date back in varsity. We were magic, everything was perfect until his ex wife came into his life. He left me for her, we graduated and didn't really leave chance to ever rekindle that spark. He's always been a good friend though, I'll give him that. Just take care of yourself, okay? Good night baby, I love you. "

Me: " Night mommy, I love you more. "

That changes everything... uncle Morgan and mom?! No way! I hope what I'm thinking doesn't come to pass...
